Plane spotting

Yesterday, after first being inspired by this and then by a late-night gab session at the location, I finally went plane spotting.
I felt slightly awkward getting out of my car and just standing around instead of using the facilities that were on the premises, but I was slightly settled by the fact that I wasn't alone.
After awhile, I approached a guy with a walkie-talkie type device, mainly because he was sitting on a perfect place to perch and watch the action. I knew I'd be there for awhile, so I figured that I should make myself comfortable.
Among the brief introductions, he said he'd been plane watching for 6 years, so if I had any questions, he'd be more than happy to help me out.
At one point I asked him why he did the "plane spotting" thing, to which he responded by asking me why I did it. I was speechless. I wasn't really sure how I could express my joy of flying. Of travelling. Of adventure. Of freedom.
He answered his own question (which was actually my question, come to think of it) by saying "because they're amazing, right?" They are amazing, but it wasn't until later that I realized that we thought they were amazing for different reasons.
My guide helped me out by pre-calling what was coming around the corner (his device was actually a radio that he'd tuned into the frequency of the control tower), guessing where they were going and telling me about the specs of each of the planes. He knew his stuff, that's for sure. He really loves planes. I really love flying.
I didn't get any pictures from the occasion. I will next time though. My camera wasn't behaving, and I probably wouldn't have gotten great shots. I was too close and the planes were too big. I've already thought about where I have to stand for better picture opportunities. It's amazing how close to the ground they are. And how HUGE they look. How can you not be in awe of them?
As I left (would have wanted to stay longer), I noticed that a crowd had built and that some had even put down lawn chairs to really enjoy the experience. I guess I'm not the only one in awe.
If you too want to be in awe, head down to Airport Rd. and Orlando Dr. (where the TD Bank, Country Style Donuts, Wendy's and Petro Canada are) between 4-7pm for the best action at Terminal 3.
I got that feeling of pure happiness while I watched those planes that afternoon. Those feelings are the best.
