Memorizing music and the holidays

I have often mentioned that I am enamored by holiday lights and sparkly things. This phenomenon has actually led to my ability to memorize pieces of music during my youth.
Let me explain.
The room in my house that I practice the piano in is also where we put our Christmas tree. December/January was prime time for when I was to be memorizing pieces for competitions or other events and so, what I'd do was, play my pieces while my head was turned to the left so that I could stare at the shining tree. Obviously if I had my head turned to the left and looking at the tree, I wasn't able to look at the score so I ended up being forced to memorize my pieces.
True story.
